Gloria G. Murray

Long Island, New York

Poet Gloria g. Murray was born in Brooklyn, New York. Influenced by Billy Collins, Sharon Olds, and Erica Jong, Murray, in her free verse poems, explores themes of domestic and romantic love and often incorporates wry humor. Her poem “In My Mother’s House” was featured in former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser’s syndicated newspaper column “American Life in Poetry.” A poetry grant from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation helped publish her chapbook In My Mother’s House (2006).

Murray is also the author of the chapbook Walking on Eggshells (1999), and her poems have appeared in Talus & Scree, Bitterroot, Pearl Magazine, Zephyr, and elsewhere. Her additional honors include awards from the Mid-Island Y/JCC, Poets Kingdom, and the South Florida Poetry Review. A member of the Performance Poets Association, Murray lives in Deer Park, Long Island.
